Therapy

Assessment and Therapy are at the core of the Kites range of services, providing residential, foster care and education with key support and risk analysis. The need for clear and accurate risk assessments to provide the basis for future care and treatment plans is essential for complete person care and treatment.

Our therapists work closely with the residential unit, foster carers and education providers to establish working partnerships with families, staff and the children. Our therapists and consultants also provide ongoing training, support, guidance and advice to team members to enhance the performance of the Kites service.

We provide a variety of therapeutic models through our multidisciplinary team and utilise individual and group sessions as required, with continual feedback and evaluation providing the framework for future care plans.

Our assessment models encompass a wide range of theoretical models but at its core for our adolescent population is the ERASOR. A reliable structured clinical judgement assessment tool, ERASOR summarises the available research to estimate the risk of recidivism. This model is augmented by psychometric, ideographic and attitudinal tests to ensure as accurate a risk prediction tool as possible. For children aged under 12 the AIM model is adopted as it provides the best available research on the factors which influence the development of sexually harmful behaviour.

As part of ongoing treatment, each risk factor identified is monitored on a monthly basis by all services working with the young person within Kites, as a way of measuring treatment effectiveness and progress. This monitoring contributes to our monthly case discussion meetings which inform treatment and care planning.
