We have recently teamed up with the Children and Young people team at Essex Police. They pride themselves on delivering child centred policing and look at each young person’s case individually. The team understand trauma can be displayed in many ways and believe certain behaviours should not be criminalised and to look at alternative more supportive ways of helping young people.
All Kites staff took part in a workshop led by the CYP team promoting their services and finding out the support they can offer. This also gave the staff the opportunity to ask any questions and gain any advice regarding specific situations relating to the boys in our care. Visits to both our homes will be arranged for the young people to help build positive relationships with the police and to provide workshops looking at a variety of subjects such as restorative justice, risks in the local areas, online safety, and victim awareness.
Two officers have also recently visited our school to discuss with the boys the dangers of leaving the home without permission, gangs, drugs, and county lines. The boys all engaged well with this visit, and we look forward to continuing working with the local police service.
