Black History Month Celebrations

To kick off our Black History Month celebrations, the boys visited the Black Culture Market in Brixton. This outing gave them the opportunity to immerse themselves in an environment rich with African and Caribbean culture – from traditional foods to clothing and accessories.

The visit sparked a lot of curiosity and conversation. The boys were fascinated by the vibrant colours of the African dresses and enjoyed sampling a variety of tasters, including juices, cakes, and crackers with sauce. Some even treated themselves to small purchases such as leave-in conditioner, cakes, and cinnamon buns!

When it came to lunchtime, most of the boys were initially hesitant to try the traditional dishes. However, after some encouragement, they were brave enough to give them a try — and absolutely loved them! The menu included options such as curry goat, jerk chicken, fish curry, and plain or peas rice.

While eating, the boys noticed a leaflet advertising a Christmas Black Culture Market and were eager to ask if they could return for it. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day — it was a fantastic opportunity to explore, learn, and appreciate the richness and diversity of Black culture.
