Accountability Network – Understanding Finances and Scams

One member of our team has chosen this project to help the young people at Kites learn the importance of financial planning for their futures. All the boys were first given the opportunity to purchase a new wallet so they can keep their money safe. They are all offered support in budgeting their weekly allowance and encouraged to put a little aside if they want to save for big ticket items.

Age and ability appropriate workshops are provided regularly for the boys to learn the basics in different financial topics these include:
• The meaning of credit and debit cards and how they work.
• The difference between something you need or want.
• Saving and investments.
• Average cost of daily items.

Unfortunately, some of our young people have been the victim of online fraud and scams. The team offers support and guidance to prevent this from happening again, they give tips and share stories, and provide 1:1 sessions with the young people to share their thoughts and feelings.
