The young people have recently visited The Secret Nuclear Bunker in Essex. When they arrived at the venue, they all expressed feeling puzzled as they were surrounded by woodlands. Some of the young people were excited to see a decommission or replica missile, they were unable to decide which and forgot to ask throughout the day so the jury’s still out!
The young people with staff headed into the house in which the bunker entrance was, everyone picked up an audio tour before entering the long hallway, the young people all showed different reactions, some listened to the audio, others appeared to be taking in the items on display and one was very eager to get to the end of passage to see the large gun on show.
All the young people looked and chatted about the military equipment on display. When going through to the main part of the bunker which had a variety of different community eras, the young people looked at the tech that was used back in the times when the bucker was built, with some of them being very shocked of how big things were.
While in the bunker one person was listening to each audio, one was watching every short film that was on, and the other young person was asking questions and just wanting to see more. When going into the medical ward, the young people were creeped out by the mannikins of injured people and medical staff, but this did not prevent them from lying in the bunks that the personnel would have slept on!
The young people could dress in garments that the people of the time would have worn. Some did try on the clothes and others watched and chatted about the bunker so far. After this the young people got to see the power station within the bunker and found it funny that there were amazon boxes on the roof of the little office in there.
At the end of the tour, everyone entered the cafetiere to get a hot or cold drink before heading to the small World War 2 shelter to eat their lunch and chat about their day and with some of the young people telling staff, they wanted to go again!
